002 - Backdated to the end of the event

So...it seems that many of us weren't quite ourselves the last few days. This one certainly was not. [He bows deeply] This one apologizes for his behavior. Please be assured that this one is no longer that person.

As for the young lady this one drew a sword on...this one cannot apologize enough. This one hopes you can find it in your heart to forgive him, though he understands if you cannot. That behavior was inexcusable. This one is so very, very sorry.

This one had heard a little about the experiments before, but actually experiencing one... [He sighs, unwilling to admit how frightened of what he had so easily reverted back to he had been.]

I know. It was the same for me when I first experienced one. It changed my entire life, and even if it still had some good things... I still wound hurting my friends' feelings by forgetting them, and I betrayed my culture without even knowing it. [He had believed her was a Robin and ate meat freely.] We're both unlucky to have our firsts be so bad. But at least... most of them aren't like that.

What are they like, if this one may ask?

Well... Sometimes they can still be scary, but a lot of the times experiments can just change the area around us instead of actually changing us. Like one time, everything here went... weird. Gravity was switching in different directions, sometimes doors could lead to completely different places, and trees were saying unkind things.

[That just sounds like what happens to a person after consuming incredible amounts of alcohol in a short period of time. Kenshin smiles in spite of himself, slightly amused by the description.]

And what were the trees saying?

Lots of things. Some of them were just silly or funny. But other things were... weird and scary. It was a mix of personal secrets about us and lies.

How very unusual. Is this the only time the trees have talked, or is this a regular occurrence?

It's the only time I know of! I mean, they could always be talking when I'm not around. You can never tell for sure in this place. Even animals talk here, after all.

Oro? They do? That's quite... [He's kind of at a loss for words.]

It will take some getting used to, certainly.

Lots of things here take getting used to. Although at least the animals only say simple words, so it's not too weird. But then again it makes me wish they could say more so we could have more conversations, you know?

Like 'em? I love them! Especially when you can ride them!

Oro? So you're fond of horses, then?

Oh, yep! We don't really have horsey horses where I came from! But back when we all had different lives because of the invasion, I was learning how to ride a horse in that life I had! I guess with all the differences, liking to ride animals was still the same.

What invasion?

Oh... right. That happened before you came back here. It was at the end of the summer. All of our lives got changed so we thought we were living in a place called Luceti Valley, and that this was our home. It was a lot like any other Malnosso shift... but it wasn't. It was actually the Third Party, because they invaded us. But we were able to stop them in the end.

[degozaruyo]

These shifts...this one isn't quite sure he's ready for another one any time soon. They're exhausting.

They really can be. Hopefully... they'll take a break or something.

Yes. We can always hope.
